We are excited and grateful to announce that data and insights from our DineSafe & Iwaspoisoned platforms will be featured at ID Week from October 16 - 19, 2024. This year’s joint annual meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, the HIV Medicine Association, the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society and the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists will be held in Los Angeles, CA. We are excited to discuss our research on leveraging crowdsourced data as a complementary tool for enhancing public health surveillance.
Our research was a collaborative effort between the DineSafe team and esteemed professors at North Carolina State University. This study investigates the relationship between self-reported symptoms of norovirus-like illness collected via DineSafe's global crowdsourcing platform, Iwaspoisoned.com, and epidemiological data from the Norovirus Sentinel Testing and Tracking network. The results underscore the potential of using crowdsourced data as a valuable tool to complement public health surveillance and forecast norovirus outbreaks. This work marks a significant advancement in our understanding of the dynamics of norovirus, a leading cause of foodborne illness globally.
ID Week is the premier annual meeting for health professionals specializing in infectious diseases. Bringing together more than 8,000 experts from around the globe, ID Week serves as a critical forum for exchanging the latest research, clinical insights, and innovative approaches to combating infectious diseases. Each year, the conference receives a vast number of abstract submissions, but only a select few are rigorously reviewed and chosen for presentation. Explore more about ID Week 2024 here.
We are excited to have our co-author, Dr. Lee-Ann Jaykus, a highly respected Professor Emerita at North Carolina State University, present our research and findings. Dr. Jaykus is an expert in food microbiology, particularly in the area of microbial food safety. She earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences and Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research is primarily focused on food virology and the transmission of enteric viruses via the food chain. She has led the USDA-NIFA Food Virology Collaborative, known as NoroCORE, which is a landmark project in this field. Dr. Jaykus’s significant contributions to food safety and her leadership in the field have earned her widespread recognition and numerous awards. Her expertise has been invaluable to this study, and her presentation is anticipated to be both insightful and informative. As we prepare to present our findings at IAFP 2024, we are eager to contribute to the ongoing global dialogue on food safety and to advance our shared efforts in addressing foodborne illnesses.
