DineSafe Participates in The Rotten Apple Webinar on Early Outbreak Detection

updated on 16 October 2025

DineSafe recently participated in The Rotten Apple webinar, “Early Outbreak Detection with Consumer Data,” held on September 11 at 5:00 p.m. CDT and hosted by Karen Constable.

During the session, Patrick Quade demonstrated how food industry professionals can leverage real-time consumer reports of foodborne illness to detect potential outbreaks earlier than traditional public health channels. He also outlined how our organization collects and aggregates foodborne illness data and how brands can apply these insights to minimize recall size and mitigate brand damage. Additionally, he provided an impromptu exploration of several consumer reports that may indicate potential food fraud activity.

The Rotten Apple is a once-per-week newsletter on food safety, food fraud, and sustainable supply chains, designed for food professionals, policy-makers, and purveyors.

Topics Discussed:

  • Detecting outbreaks faster with consumer reporting and AI
  • How brands can reduce recall sizes and limit damage
  • Insights for food safety managers, manufacturers, retailers, and policy makers

At DineSafe.org, we remain committed to advancing food safety through technology and collaboration. We’re proud to contribute to this important conversation and to help organizations stay ahead of emerging risks.
